Who Wants To Be A Christmas Millionaire:
P1.4 Million raised
December:
Merry Christmas! Thank you to everyone who has helped the
Springboard Foundation reach its goal of breaking the
P1Million barrier by Christmas Day, 2004. Through your
kind donations we are now able to support child cancer
sufferers in the Philippines this December to the tune of:
|
1,400,000.00 PHP
Philippines Pesos |
= |
25,000.00 USD
United States Dollars |
Whilst the bulk of the donations
came from Philippine based individuals and organisations,
donations of all kinds have also been greatly received from
the UK, Germany, Holland, USA, Thailand, Hong Kong,
Australia and Canada. From sponsored runs, donations in
kind, Christmas concert collections, auctions, employee
challenges to simple heartfelt cash donations, the overall
response to our ‘Who wants to be a Christmas Millionaire’
fund drive has been truly remarkable!
Together we will now make
a difference for these indigent families in Philippine
Government Hospitals.
Please visit our website
regularly for updates on where the money will be spent.

already completed.

The Man from Atlantis
December
28th: On September 9th, 2004, Andy Pope –
Atlantis Dive Resort (Puerto Galera, Philippines) –
contacted the Springboard Foundation asking if there was
any way in which we could assist Philip, a Divemaster who
has been working for Atlantis for nearly a year; he had
become a valued member of the dive team and good friend to
many of the guests as well as his colleagues.
That week
Philip was taken to hospital and diagnosed with acute
leukemia – a life threatening form of blood cancer.
The
Philippines has no national health system and Philip is the
sole provider for his family (his father died of leukemia
when Philip was a boy). Philip’s doctor had advised a good
chance for recovery if treatment was begun immediately.
Springboard then quickly put Andy and Philip in touch with
the Give A Life Foundation – and through your donations –
Philip has made a remarkable recovery. On the 28th
of December, Philip’s doctors gave him the good news that
we were all looking for: his blood count was normal and his
chances of survival, greatly improved.

Tuloy Sa Don Bosco orphanage in Alabang.
Philippines Rugby Football – History in the Making!
December: The Philippines is a country not
immediately associated with Rugby Union; however, this
perception is soon to change, rapidly. Rugby Union is alive
and well in the Philippines, and growing fast. Development
of the game has now matured to selection of the inaugural
Philippines National Rugby Team. At the finals of the
Philippine Rugby Football Union (PRFU) 15-A-Side League on
06 November 2004 the PRFU announced the selection of the
first ever Philippines National Rugby Team.
Altogether,
50 names were announced, 25 for the Senior Squad and 25 for
the Development Team. All participants in the League played
enthusiastically on the chance of selection to play for the
Philippines Team. On 11 December the National Team will
play its first game against a select ‘Barbarians’ side
chosen from the players not eligible for National Squad
selection. Then they will be playing their first
‘international’ game on 16 January 2005 against Hong Kong
University RFC.
The
proceeds of 11th December event will support the
PRFU and the Springboard Foundation (who have a target to
raise P1 Million, by Christmas Day 2004, to renovate and
convert rooms in a Government hospital in Metro Manila into
a pedia ward. They would also like to provide free
medicine, beds, mattresses, side tables and medical
equipment for those wards. With your help, the dream can
become a reality).
The PRFU has
just been admitted as a member of the International Rugby
Board (IRB), the governing body for the sport worldwide,
and is very satisfied with its continued success in
accelerating rugby development in the Philippines. Key
themes in the strategy for development of the game include:
maximizing the Filipino player base, nurturing junior rugby
and raising rugby’s profile throughout the Philippines.
