Relief operation for typhoon Reming victims
in Bicol
Typhoon Reming
devastated Bicol and left thousands of people homeless and in despair.
Through the generous response to our plea for help among our supporters we
were able to partner with ASCODE Foundation and provided the victims of
super typhoon Reming with assorted relief goods. Over 1000 families were
given blankets, water containers and used clothes. These were vital to their
everyday living while recuperating from the disaster. Apart from the two
previous relief operations made last December 2006 for the casualties of
typhoon Reming, this additional relief operation was very needed to help the
unfortunate victims to a new start.
Renovation of the Kangaroo Mother Care and NICU ward
The renovation of
the Kangaroo Mother Care and NICU ward Room #4 at Dr. Jose Fabella Hospital
was completed in partnership with Give A Life Foundation. 2 Bili lights
were donated. These rooms were in great disrepair and this made it nearly
impossible to provide a clean and healthy environment for the young,
critical patients to survive and recover. Child mortality dropped by over
35% after the renovations were completed.
Christmas fund-drive for the Philippine Christian Foundation
The Philippine
Christian Foundation received 111,600 Pesos, the proceeds from our 2006
Christmas Fund Drive, which provided the funding for their Feeding Program
for the students attending the three PCF schools in Tondo, Navotas and
Baguio. Over 111of students participated in the feeding program. The
students also received assorted donations of educational materials to assist
them further with their studies, clothes, shoes and toys. Moreover, a
computer set was given to the faculty of PCF to aid the teachers in
rendering a much better quality of teaching. These children live and work
in the dump-sites and malnutrition is rampant. The donation was originally
intended for school supplies only but the need for good nutrition was so
great that was decided to fund the feeding program as well.
Ambu bags for neonatal, pediatric and adult use
The Church of Jesus
Christ – Latter Day Saints, headed by Sister Empy, was so generous to donate
adult circle breathing kits and assorted ambubags, particularly neonatal,
pediatric and adult. These ambubags were then distributed to six different
hospitals greatly in need of these equipments, which are Dr. Jose Fabella
Hospital, San Lazaro Hospital, National Children’s Hospital, East Avenue
Medical Center, Ospital ng Sampaloc and Dr. Jose Reyes Memorial Medical
Center. As per reports given to Springboard from the mentioned
beneficiaries, there was a significant improvement in the hospital’s
approach in treating patients using these respiratory equipments. The
hospitals now could accommodate more children in need of treatment. Without
this equipment patients simply die. |
